Like as, to make our appetites more keen,
正好像要增加我們的口胃，
With eager compounds we our palate urge;
使用調味劑，刺激我們味蕾；
As, to prevent our maladies unseen,
像是要抵禦(我們)未來的疾病，
We sicken to shun sickness when we purge;
用瀉劑催吐，以避免生大病。
Even so, being full of your ne'er-cloying sweetness,
同樣如此，已飽嚐(厭倦)了你永不
To bitter sauces did I frame my feeding ;
膩人的甜蜜，我餵自己酸苦（醬）；
And, sick of welfare, found a kind of meetness
並且，厭倦了健康，(我)找到一件（種）,
To be diseased, ere that there was true needing.
致病之方，在真正需要(生病)之前。(以避免真正大病)。
Thus policy in love, to anticipate
用此策略於愛情上，那預期
The ills that were not, grew to faults assured,
原來沒病的，保證發生問題，
And brought to medicine a healthful state
並用此策略引到醫療治程，
Which, rank of goodness, would by ill be cured;
健康佳者，受藥虐待而癒逞；
But thence I learn and find the lesson true,
但從此事，我學到真正教訓(功課)，
Drugs poison him that so fell sick of you.
拿藥毒虐那個厭倦你的人(我)。（拿迷藥給那不再愛你的人。）
第四句，文藝復興時期，“清洗＂腸胃被認為是健康的做法。
第十句, 參考資料I. 預測(並避免)不存在的不忠邪惡 , 我必然對你不忠。
第十二句， would by ill be cured; 被邪惡虐待而得癒。癒逞是達到療癒的目的，逞
有故意強使之意，較合該詩本意。
第十四句，拿毒藥給那因愛你而生病的人。拿毒藥給那個對你情所困的人。這裡當
然是隱喻。許多醫藥實際上是有毒的藥物。
