Like as, to make our appetites more keen,
正好像要增加我們的口胃,
With eager compounds we our palate urge;
使用調味劑,刺激我們味蕾;
As, to prevent our maladies unseen,
像是要抵禦(我們)未來的疾病,
We sicken to shun sickness when we purge;
用瀉劑催吐,以避免生大病。
Even so, being full of your ne'er-cloying sweetness,

To bitter sauces did I frame my feeding ;

拿藥毒虐那個厭倦你的人(我)。(拿迷藥給那不再愛你的人。)
第四句,文藝復興時期,“清洗"腸胃被認為是健康的做法。
第十句, 參考資料I. 預測(並避免)不存在的不忠邪惡 , 我必然對你不忠。
第十二句, would by ill be cured; 被邪惡虐待而得癒。癒逞是達到療癒的目的,逞
有故意強使之意,較合該詩本意。
第十四句,拿毒藥給那因愛你而生病的人。拿毒藥給那個對你情所困的人。這裡當
然是隱喻。許多醫藥實際上是有毒的藥物。
