Sonnet 96 Some say thy fault is youth, some wantonness 十一言
Some say thy fault is youth, some wantonness;
你的缺點,是幼稚,有些荒唐;
Some say thy grace is youth and gentle sport;
你的優點是年輕,優雅、浪漫;(年輕)
Both grace and faults are lov'd of more and less;
優點缺點,多少都有人讚賞;
Thou makest faults graces that to thee resort.
缺點變成優點,當看你掌管。
As on the fingers of a throned queen
恰似女王手指的寶石戒環,
The basest jewel will be well esteem'd,
最廉價的珠寶,也受到稱揚,(欣賞)
So are those errors that in thee are seen
那些在你身上看到的傻樣 ( 醜相)
To truths translated and for true things deem'd.
被解釋成天真(理),人們也信然。
How many lambs might the stern wolf betray,
假若他(你)裝扮成羊羔的形態,
If like a lamb he could his looks translate!
多少羔羊將會被惡狼誘拐!
How many gazers mightst thou lead away,
若你的魅力全部施展出來,
If thou wouldst use the strenth of all thy state!
多少仰慕者可能被你帶壞(歪)!
But do not so; I love thee in such sort,
但可別這樣做;(因)我愛你極深,
As, thou being mine, mine is thy good report.
如同你是我的,我是你表徵(旌)。
