 Sonnet 34 　Why didst thou promise such a beauteous day　十二言

Why didst thou promise such a beauteous day,

為何你答應如此美麗的一天，
And make me travel forth without my cloak,

使我沒有帶斗篷便出來旅行，
To let base clouds o' ertake me in my way,

讓烏雲在我旅途中襲吻了我，
Hiding thy brav'ry in their rotten smoke?

用重重霧嵐遮蔽了你的光明？
'Tis not enough that through the cloud thou break,

雖然你現在衝破雲層，晒乾了（ㄌ一ㄠ ˇ）
To dry the rain on my storm-beaten face,

暴雨淋透的臉龐，但仍然不足，
For no man well of such a salve can speak,

沒有人會認為這個只能醫療
That heals the wound, and cures not the disgrace:

外傷的藥方，還能夠療癒恥辱：
Nor can thy shame give physic to my grief,

你的愧疚，也醫不了我的悲痛，
Though thou repent, yet I have still the loss,

你雖然懺悔，但我仍感到心碎，
Th' offender's sorrow lends but weak relief

對承受冒犯者強烈詛咒的人，
To him that bears the strong offence's cross.

加害者自責，只帶來微弱安慰。
　Ah but those tears are pearl which thy love sheds,

啊，但那些含愛的眼淚是珍珠，
　And they are rich, and ransom all ill deeds.

粒粒寶貴，贖償了你所有錯誤。

Offence's cross 指冒犯者給的十字架
those tears are pearl 指雨水如珍珠般留在臉龐
yet I have still the loss, 我仍有失落感。此處用心碎，有痛心之感，亦未失原意。

Why didst thou promise such a beauteous day,，

為何你答應如此美麗的一天，2

And make me travel forth without my cloak,       

使我不携带斗篷便出来旅行，2

To let base clouds o’ertake me in my way,          

讓烏雲在旅途中襲吻了我，1

Hiding thy brav’ry in their rotten smoke?         

用重重霧嵐遮蔽你的光(英)明？

Tis not enough that through the cloud thou break, 

雖然你现在冲破雲層,晒乾了

To dry the rain on my storm-beaten face,         

 我暴雨淋透的脸龐.便足夠？

For no man well of such a salve can speak,         

没有人会認為这只能医治外伤：

That heals the wound, and cures not the disgrace:， 

但洗愈不了耻辱的药方有效用。

Nor can thy shame give physic to my grief,        

你的(赧)愧疚, 也実質上医不了我的悲傷 1

Though thou repent, yet I have still the loss,       

你雖然懺悔，我依然有损失，1

Th’ offender’s sorrow lends but weak relief          

冒犯者引咎,只是微弱的慰藉。2 (copy from)

要他承担着受害的强烈屈辱。 

Ah but those tears are pearl which thy love sheds, 

啊，但那些含爱的眼淚是珍珠，
