Sonnet 101 　O truant Muse, what shall be thy amends　接第100 首，十二言

O truant Muse, what shall be thy amends

懶惰的詩神，你應該怎麼彌補，
For thy neglect of truth in beauty dyed?

因你忽略了真理與美麗互染？
Both truth and beauty on my love depends;

真與美二者皆為我愛所依附;
So dost thou too, and therein dignified.

所以，詩亦如此，因他們而端莊（尊貴）。
Make answer, Muse: wilt thou not haply say

回答我，繆斯；也許你會如此說(講)
Truth needs no color, with his color fixed,

真理不需潻加彩色，顏色恆常(定)，
Beauty no pencil, beauty´s truth to lay;

美麗不需修飾，美質(自然)呈現自然；
But best is best if never intermixed?

若未混雜，最好(良)的終究是最好(良)？
Because he needs no praise, wilt thou be dumb?

只因為他不需讚美，你就裝蒜(啞)？
Excuse not silence so, for ´t lies in thee

不能原諒這(種)沉默，因你有力量
To make him much outlive a gilded tomb,

可以使他比金柩活得更久長，
And to be praised of ages yet to be.

而贏得未來世代恆久的讚揚。
　Then do thy office, Muse. I teach thee how

詩神，工作吧！我教你如何寫詩，
　To make him seem long hence as he shows now.

讓他在遙遠的未來，恆久如斯。

第二句 真理染在美麗裡? 第九句，But best is best if never intermixed?

若從未混雜次好的，最好的終究是最好的？

第十三句，Then do thy office, Muse. I teach thee how

詩神，那麼做你寫詩的工作吧！我教你如何寫。
如果你要Muse 詩神寫詩讚美一個可以讓人永遺懷念的年輕人，單只描述美是不夠的，而要寫出真正內涵，才能恆久。
